High atop the Smith Tower (once the tallest building west of the Mississippi) is a viewing deck all nicely decorated in a Chinese motif. Against on wall is this elaborate "throne" chair, flanked by a couple of serious looking Foo dogs.
When I visited there last summer with my friends Chris and Julie, they both had to sit in the chair and I snapped this shot of Chris looking quite imperious. Only later did we hear that tradition held that single women who sat in the chair would be married within a year.
There may be something to that. While it didn't work for Julie, almost exactly a year later Chris called me to say that John, her boyfriend, had popped the question and she'd accepted. You can read all about it on on her blog.
